The wool fiber is the most complex natural textile
fiber. It absorbs moisture yet repels water; it stretches, then
springs back to shape; it resists dirt, yet absorbs dyes.
Wool has unique physical properties which give it
superior performance capabilities and make it ideal for use in
the bedding industry. Many of these advantages are due to its
complex and natural physio-chemical structure, which can not be
artificially manufactured.
Large volumes of high quality, consistent and clean wool
are produced annually in the United States. Wool has a natural
crimp that gives it the advantages of elasticity, flexibility,
loft, resilience over other fibers. The result is greater
comfort, durability, warmth, and shape retention. The crimping
process actually increases the natural frequency and
reciprocating bends or waves along the fibers' length which are
then permanently "heat set" to predetermined limits.
Wool is water resistant and repels odor.
Wool reduces pressure points and regulates temperature
keeping you cool when it's warm and warm when it's cold.
Wool can absorb up to 30% of it's weight in moisture,
and wick it into the air. This keeps you warm when it's cool and
cool when it's warm. Synthetics, by contrast, do not absorb
moisture, wick it way from the body to the fiber surface which
makes you feel clammy when its warm and chilly when it's cool.
Wool's Natural Resilience
Wool has a natural crimp that gives it the advantages of
elasticity, flexibility, loft, resilience over other fibers. The
result is greater comfort, durability, warmth, and shape
retention.
Wool is durable. A fiber can be bent up to 20,000 times
without breaking. Compare this to 3,200 times for cotton and
1,800 for silk.
The natural crimp of wool separates the fibers. Crush a
hand full of wool and watch it spring back to shape. Woolen
yarns provide warmth and comfort.
Wool & Microclimates
When used in bedding, wool creates a micro climate which
assists in regulating body temperature and humidity, providing a
more rested night's sleep.
Flame Resistance
Testing over many years has confirmed that the high
keratin protein and moisture content of wool make it naturally
resistant to burning. It is difficult to set alight under most
conditions, and burns only weakly, forming a cold char which
tends to extinguish burning. Test have shown wool to be among
the safest of bedding materials.
Allergy Free
Organic crimped wool has been thoroughly cleaned and is
non-allergenic, making it ideal for those who suffer allergies
to feather and down or synthetic bedding products.
